I am just back from over a week on vacation with my wife and our family. Which came right on the heels of a week in Arizona caring for my father. Which came right on the heels of traveling to teach trauma-informed care at Universities in two different states. And tomorrow I leave to travel to Saint Louis for my usual time on campus. This semester has been a wild, busy time, and there’s still a month and a half to go.
The word resting lightly on my shoulders, sitting on the tip of my tongue, and echoing in my fingers as I type these words and am interrupted by my cat demanding snuggles, is balance. These weeks are calling for me to read fun fiction books and heavy books necessary for my scholarship. Type thoughts to you and drafts for papers. Listen to TikTok and the (other) newses. Sleep for rest and sleep for recovery. Walk for freedom and for strength.
